PITMAN, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) is honoring the dedication, expertise, and contributions to healthcare of its diverse membership by celebrating Ambulatory Care Nurses Week Feb. 5-9, 2024. The annual recognition week celebrates the crucial role ambulatory care nurses throughout the United States provide to high-quality healthcare outside traditional hospital settings. #amcarenurse24

AAACN defines ambulatory care nursing as unique domain of specialty nursing practice that focuses on individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in primary and specialty care, and non-acute outpatient settings.

"Ambulatory nurses are pivotal to leading the value-informed nursing practice that will navigate our health system and our profession to transformed models of care that elicit improved access, equitable health, and improved livelihood for the diverse array of patient and populations served," reports Rachel Start, MSN NEA-BC RN FAAN, AAACN President. Professional ambulatory care nursing is a complex, multifaceted specialty that encompasses independent and collaborative practice. The comprehensive practice of ambulatory care nursing is one built upon a broad knowledge base of nursing and health sciences, and applies clinical expertise rooted in the nursing process. Ambulatory care includes those clinical, organizational, and professional activities engaged in by RNs with and for individuals, groups, and populations who seek assistance with improving health and/or seek care for health-related problems.

The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) was founded in 1978 as a not for profit, educational forum. AAACN is the only national nursing association dedicated to practicing nurses and nursing leaders specialized in serving people in community and hospital-based outpatient care settings. AAACN supports its members by providing programs that advance holistic and evidence-based patient care, as well as advocate for the essential role of ambulatory care nurses in the future of health care. Currently the association has over 4,400 members and is headquartered in New Jersey.
