TOMS RIVER, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- When someone struggles with mental health challenges or suicidal thoughts, it can feel difficult to stay connected to others. In moments of stress, uncertainty, or emotional pain, having someone to listen can make all the difference. For nearly 50 years, CONTACT of Ocean & Monmouth Counties (CONTACT) has been that caring voice on the other end of the line, offering comfort, compassion, and connection to those who need it most.

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and CONTACT is calling on the community this month to encourage open conversations, recognize the warning signs of a crisis, and learn what resources are available to help. CONTACT is one such resource.

CONTACT's mission is to provide trained telephone listeners 24/7. Through compassionate, confidential listening and support, CONTACT offers a lifeline for individuals in crisis, those struggling with thoughts of suicide, or anyone who simply needs someone to listen. Their Crisis Intervention Line is staffed by trained volunteers all the time, offering confidential emotional support and a caring ear day or night.

CONTACT also offers resources for non-emergencies, aiming to prevent crises. Their First Call for Help Program connects callers with other community resources, and the Reassurance Calling Program is designed for Ocean County seniors in need of friendly socialization and wellness checks.

"Community means being there for one another," said Kim Santora, Executive Director of CONTACT. "Every call is a chance to make a difference. Suicide prevention begins with connection, and that is what CONTACT has been providing for decades. When someone feels heard, they are reminded that their life matters."

Reaching out for help takes courage. CONTACT offers a free, confidential opportunity to do just that.

Anyone who is struggling or worried about a loved one is encouraged to call 732-240-6100 for free, compassionate support. You never need to face tough times alone.
