Volunteers play a vital role in providing support to those experiencing homelessness.
MANAHAWKIN, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- Family Promise of the Jersey Shore (FPJS) is actively seeking volunteers to join the battle against homelessness in Ocean County. A wide range of opportunities are available; serving meals, providing financial literacy training, becoming a host for families in need, and more.
In 2022, FPJS served over 386 families in Ocean County, NJ, a 125% increase from 2019. Through prevention, shelter, education and/or stabilization, FPJS served 1,400 unique individuals in 2022 alone.
"Family Promise of the Jersey Shore strives to raise awareness of and prevent homelessness in Ocean County as numbers increase every year," stated Elizabeth Golla, Executive Director of FPJS. "Our volunteers play an essential role in helping families experiencing homelessness attain sustainable independence."
Volunteering for FPJS is easy and flexible for anyone's schedule and desired level of commitment. "We currently have over 100 volunteers engaged locally. As the need for goods and services increases, our need for volunteers has grown exponentially," stated Golla. Please consider donating items on the Wish List, teaching skills to help with job readiness, serving a meal or becoming a host site.

"The homeless community is not faceless. A little boy came to our program said he has never felt so welcome in a church before; that it felt like home. And that for me as a volunteer was an amazing experience to know that he is loved by not only his parents, but by his community," noted one volunteer from FPJS.
If you have professional skills such as resume writing or budget management, and are willing to teach individuals to be self-sustaining, please contact us. For more information on volunteer opportunities, please visit: familypromisejerseyshore.org. Every volunteer makes a difference!
