TOMS RIVER, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- Each year, one in five people experience a mental health condition. Yet mental health affects every one of us—regardless of diagnosis. We all have a mind to take care of, and nurturing our mental well-being is just as important as tending to our physical health. This Mental Health Awareness Month, CONTACT of Ocean & Monmouth Counties (CONTACT) reminds our community that mental health is not just a personal issue—it's a societal one. Together, we can build a world where mental wellness is prioritized, supported, and protected.

"The need for action has never been greater. Rising rates of anxiety, depression, and loneliness show us how critical it is to recognize the signs of emotional distress, both in ourselves and in those around us," stated Kim Santora, Executive Director of CONTACT. Creating positive change doesn't require grand gestures. It begins with small, intentional steps: practicing self-care, reaching out for help, checking in with loved ones, and sharing resources.

At CONTACT, we are here to support you every step of the way. For more than 49 years, CONTACT of Ocean & Monmouth Counties has provided compassionate listening, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and community support services—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CONTACT's trained volunteers offer a safe, confidential space for individuals to express their feelings, explore their options, and find hope during difficult times.

"Whether you are in crisis or simply need someone to talk to, our free and confidential helpline is available to everyone," noted Santora. "By reaching out, you are taking an important step toward caring for your mental health—and you are never alone."

By starting with oneself, we create a ripple effect. When we prioritize our own well-being, we inspire others to do the same. Together, we can cultivate a community where mental health is recognized as a vital part of overall wellness, and where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength, not weakness.
