JERSEY CITY, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- Departed Soles Brewing Company has released an American-Styler Pilsner named "Red Bandana," whose proceeds go to assisting causes related to 9/11 that are still in need and under-served.

Red Bandana's name comes from Welles Crowther, better known as "The Man in the Red Bandana," who is credited with saving more than a dozen people on 9/11 before losing his own life in the terror attack.

Crowther, who was an employee on the 104th floor of the South Tower, was also a firefighter, along with his Father, at Empire 1 Hook & Ladder Company. When the Twin Towers were attacked, rather than fleeing to save his own life, Welles covered his nose an mouth in a red bandana gifted him by the elder Crowther and traversed the accessible floors of the tower, assisting as many people out as he could, before ultimately joining forces with many of FDNY's Bravest that perished on that fateful day.

Brewed in collaboration with Crowther's family, sales from this #DefinitelyNotGlutenFree craft beer benefit the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, along with other causes championed by 9/11 victims and families. Departed Soles' does its best effort to make these donations to causes where the funds directly benefit families, rather than high-priced board members.

Brian Kulbacki, Owner Departed Soles, attended Boston College, where Welles was a Lacrosse player and fellow student. To Kulbacki, the beer is deeper than just an alumni connection. "As a small business, I feel like you have to support those who support you. The events of September 11th are sadly part of the fabric of my generations' youth. We lost parents, relatives, and friends." He adds that while it's tough as a brewery, crafting a product that is often about good times, "We promised to never forget. The Crowther Family gave us a classy way to take this product and do some desperately needed good."
