RIVER EDGE, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- The Adelphi Orchestra continues its 71st concert season with Shostakovich @50, a special event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich, conducted by Maestro Kyunghun Kim. Presented by the Ramapo College School of Contemporary Arts, this concert promises a memorable evening of classical music.
The program opens with clarinetist Kingsley Hsieh, an Adelphi Orchestra Young Artist Competition winner, performing Carl Maria von Weber's Concerto for Clarinet No. 2 in E-flat Major, Op. 74. Following this, the audience will witness the World Premiere of Between the Suns, composed by Ramapo Professor Gilad Cohen. This piece is an orchestration of Cohen's chamber work Ten Variations, first performed by the Nash Ensemble of London in 2011 and lauded internationally. The concert culminates with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 10, a dynamic and masterful work that established the composer's early reputation.
