Banks, partnered with the City of East Orange to provide crucial support for local business owners through the Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Orientation. This event, part of the "Unlocking Success in East Orange UEZ" series, highlighted the economic benefits available through the UEZ program and offered strategic guidance to small businesses.
Key speakers for the evening included Alycia Cohen, Acting Director of Policy, Planning, and Development for the City of East Orange; Mark Cheatam, Acting Manager of Economic Development for East Orange; and Dennis McNeill, Vice President of the East Orange Chamber of Commerce. Joining them were Jamila Beasley, Economic Development Specialist, and Kiona Littlejohn from the Department of Policy, Planning, and Development.

Mark Cheatam provided an in-depth overview of the UEZ program, showcasing the numerous benefits available to East Orange business owners. "The UEZ program offers powerful incentives such as reduced sales tax rates, low-interest loans, and tax-free purchases on specific investments, all of which play a critical role in supporting local businesses and contributing to the city's economic growth," Cheatam explained.
Anna D. Banks, representing Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc., emphasized the importance of leveraging these opportunities to not only stabilize but grow businesses in the urban landscape.
