EAST ORANGE, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc., in continued partnership with the City of East Orange, is excited to unveil the full curriculum for the Second Cohort of the Professional Development Workshop Series—a 9-week training initiative designed to equip local small business owners with the knowledge, skills, and strategic tools necessary to grow and sustain thriving businesses in today's dynamic urban economy.
The workshop series, which launches on April 16, 2025, is facilitated by Anna D. Banks, Executive Coach and Founder of Thrive Leadership Institute, and supported by Mayor Ted R. Green, the East Orange City Council, and the Department of Policy, Planning & Development, led by Director Alycia Cohen, along with the Economic Development Division, managed by Mark Cheatam.
The comprehensive curriculum includes:
This second cohort builds on the tremendous success of the inaugural series, which helped local entrepreneurs formalize operations, refine financial management strategies, and become eligible for Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Certification—a designation that offers exclusive incentives and business development opportunities.

"This partnership with Thrive Leadership Institute is another example of how we're investing in our local entrepreneurs and ensuring they have access to the tools, training, and opportunities they need to succeed right here in our city."

"Each workshop is intentionally designed to meet the real challenges faced by East Orange's entrepreneurs. We're helping them make informed decisions, build confidence, and tap into strategic resources that will move their businesses forward."
Alycia Cohen, Director of Policy, Planning & Development, emphasized the city's strong commitment to inclusive economic development. "Our department is deeply invested in ensuring small businesses—especially those led by women, people of color, and first-time entrepreneurs—receive access to high-quality training and technical assistance," she said. "Thrive Leadership Institute has been an incredible partner in making that vision a reality. We believe that strong small businesses are the foundation of a strong East Orange."
Mark Cheatam, Manager of Economic Development, echoed that sentiment. "This curriculum is more than just educational content—it's a roadmap to sustainability and empowerment," Cheatam stated. "By helping entrepreneurs understand compliance, funding, marketing, and hiring in a local context, we're preparing them to take full advantage of city and state resources. That's the kind of support that leads to lasting economic impact."

With the enthusiastic backing of Mayor Ted R. Green and the East Orange City Council, this program reflects the city's broader vision to uplift local entrepreneurs and strengthen the economic fabric of East Orange.
Business owners who were not able to enroll in the spring cohort are encouraged to express interest in the Fall 2025 session, which is already in development due to high demand.
