Organization Leverages Leader's Decades of Experience to Enhance Community Health and Equity
TRENTON, N.J. - JerseyDesk -- Veteran YMCA leader and advocate for community health Julie Gallanty has been tapped to serve as CEO of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance (the Alliance), a nonprofit that leads a coalition of 30 independent YMCA associations across the Garden State.
Gallanty, Ed.D, was appointed following an extensive national search and assumed responsibilities of the statewide nonprofit in early January, said Mark Dibble, chairman of the Alliance Board of Trustees, who led the search committee.
"We are pleased to welcome Julie into her new role at the Alliance," said Dibble, who also serves as president and CEO of the YMCA of the Pines. "Her extensive leadership in the Y movement and commitment to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y regardless of their age, income, background or beliefs, made her the perfect choice to lead the Alliance."

Gallanty said: "It is a privilege to work for the Y and to have the opportunity to make meaningful change in the lives of the people we serve. Most people know the Y as a swim and gym, but we're making great strides in advancing health equity in New Jersey with the support of strategic partners."
Gallanty pointed to the Alliance's partnership with the New Jersey Department of Human Services to help individuals and families with food insecurity learn how to access the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the nation's most significant anti-hunger program.
In February, Gallanty will celebrate her 40th YMCA anniversary. She joined the Alliance as a senior vice president in 2019, providing a wide variety of support services to New Jersey YMCAs, including strategic planning, board governance, CEO onboarding, as well as shared services and mergers to help strengthen Ys.
Prior to being named CEO of the Alliance, she served for eight months as interim CEO after former CEO Darrin Anderson resigned to assume a position at another nonprofit.

Her roles within the Y movement include serving as senior executive of the YMCA of Greater New York, CEO of the New Rochelle YMCA, executive director of the Ridgewood YMCA, and CEO of the Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Binghamton University in psychology, a master's in education from Adelphi University, and a doctorate in education from Walden University. She holds professional certifications as a certified volunteer administrator, certified parks and recreation professional, English as a second language, and professional coach.
